FB40 and FB42 are commonly listed as continuous press chain references for wood-based panel equipment. Their most obvious difference is nominal pitch: 40 mm versus 42 mm. Market-reference tables also show small geometry differences in the E1 and T dimensions.

Public market data lists both with R1 20 mm, R2 28 mm, D 25 mm, L 14 mm, X 75 mm, Y 38 mm, E2 20 mm and 5 mm plate thickness, while E1 is shown as 53 mm for FB40 and 54 mm for FB42; T is shown as 42 mm and 44 mm respectively. A 45,000 lbf ultimate tensile strength is also listed as a reference.
Why the chain code is not enough
Even when a catalogue code appears to match, the installed chain may have OEM-specific or revision-specific details. Confirm the physical sample, the sprocket interface and cumulative pitch/length before replacement.
What to send for a quote
Provide code, pitch, complete chain length, quantity, press make/model, chain photos, sprocket tooth count and a dimensioned drawing. If the chain runs as a synchronized pair, state that requirement clearly.
